Tech Tip Tuesday – #028 – Link Statistic Tracking in Emails & Social Media

Today’s Tip:

Today we’re talking about link statistic tracking in email and social media.  So, link tracking.  First of all….what is it?  It’s a way you can see when, and how many times your links are clicked when you share a listing, a link to your website in an email, or how many clicks something is getting in Facebook or twitter.  Any time you want to verify that a link was clicked.

We’ll be using Google URL shortener for this video, it is free, so feel free to play along on your computer or phone.

Let’s say I want to send a link to a blog post we have via email, but I want to know when the other side has clicked the link that I sent them.  My first step is to copy the link in the address bar.  Depending on what you’re using, you can hit command c for a mac or control c if you’re on windows, to copy the web address.

Next, we head to goo.gl.  This is google url shortener’s website, and we paste the address into the given text box there.  They then provide a new, shorter web address that we can use in all our efforts moving forward.

Tech Tip Tuesday – #024 – Taming Your Email Using Google Inbox

Today’s Tip:

Today, we’re talking about taming your email inbox using Google Inbox App.

Most people have more email than they know what to do with.  Inbox is Google’s latest attempt at helping you make sense of all that information overload.  First, Inbox is free.  You can get this app with any Google account.  And some of the features may make it worth even signing up for a new Gmail account if you don’t already have one, and forwarding your other email here.  Let’s check it out:

When you first see the interface, it looks a lot different than Gmail or outlook.  Let’s see how it all breaks down.  Your email is listed chronologically, with the newest stuff at the top.  When you have email that shows up that meets certain criteria, Inbox will group these emails into a smart folder called a “bundle” that reduces your inbox noise.  Stuff like trip confirmations, online orders, and receipts get sent there by default so that your main inbox stays clean.  Pretty cool.  Another really useful feature is the snooze button on email.  Let’s say I get an email that contains information I need to know about, but not until tomorrow.  Instead of letting it sit there and get lost, I can hit the snooze button, take the email away from my inbox for now, and have it show up tomorrow when I need it.  Very handy.

Let’s say somewhere in your list of 1000s of emails, there’s one or two REALLY important ones you don’t want to miss.  Use the pushpin button to make sure you never lose them.  These are like “starring” or “flagging” the email.  Then, when you hit the pushpin button at the top, it’ll show you only the ones you’ve pinned.  This is a great way to prioritize and triage an out of control inbox and answer the ones that need attention first.

Hopefully that’s been a helpful first look at taming your email using Google’s Inbox app, and that’s today’s Tech Tip Tuesday.

Tech Tip Tuesday – #023 – Beginner Level Task & Project Management

Today’s Tip:

Today’s Tech Tip Tuesday,  We’ll be talking about how to get more done using a project manager.

In today’s world, maybe you feel like there’s more to do than you could ever get done in a day.  One thing that can help with that is a project manager.  The good news is that there’s a lot of good ones out there, and some are even available for free.

Today we’ll be showing an example using Wunderlist, which is what our staff uses to stay in sync.  It’s cross platform, meaning you can access it as a website, on your phone, tablet, using windows, mac, and more.  And best of all, you can try it out for free.  If you’re on a mac, some of my favorites are OmniFocus and Things by cultured code.

Everyone’s seen a todo-list before.  The cool thing about these, though, is that they’re collaborative. They can hold an infinite amount of items – and if you have the program on your phone, they’re always with you.

You can use these lists any ways that make sense for you, but this video contains a few ideas for you.

Tech Tip Tuesday #019 – Advanced MLS Wildcard Searching

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gv7Y1gM14qY

Today’s Tip:

In the real world, we forget bits and pieces of information that’s essential to finding what we need. In the MLS, there’s a handy feature that helps find what you need using just pieces of information. The asterisks, (which you can produce by hitting “shift-8” on the keyboard is a wildcard that allows you to search for what you remember. Let’s see how it works.

Let’s say you can remember what some of your criteria starts with, but can’t remember the entire name or number. Well, add an asterisks wherever your memory fails. If I know the phone number of the person I’m looking for starts with a 302-227….but can’t remember the rest, add an asterisk, and it’ll search for everything that starts with those numbers. Let’s say you remember the last name starts with an “s” and ends with a “t”….but can’t remember their full name, add an asterisk in the middle.

Let’s say you remember the office name had the word re/max somewhere in it? Just add an asterisk at the beginning and end of the term, and now we see every occurrence of the word.

Very cool, very helpful way to find what you’re looking for when you can’t remember the whole term.

That’s advanced MLS wildcard searching, and that’s today’s tech tip tuesday.

Today’s Tip:

Today we’re talking about sending auto-emails in the MLS.

Email marketing and automation is such a helpful thing when you want to actively send your clients information that’s relevant to them without taking any additional time yourself. If you have a client that’s looking for very specific criteria, and wants to be notified when anything new happens within that critera…auto emails can work wonders for you.

Take a look at todays video to for more information on how it’s done.
