SCAOR Rental Affairs Committee and Coastal Municipalities gather for 3rd annual Pre-Season Meeting

Lewes, DE, May 4, 2017:  The 3rd annual Pre-Season Meeting with SCAOR’s Rental Affairs Committee (RAC) and the Coastal Communities of Lewes, Rehoboth, Dewey, Bethany, South Bethany, and Fenwick Island, as well as Millville, Ocean View, and Milton, took place on May 4th at Irish Eyes in Lewes.  Sharon Palmer-Stauffer, Rental Manager for Coldwell Banker Resort Realty, and Chair of the RAC stated of the Pre-Season Meeting, “Today’s meeting was an excellent example of realtors and its local members of law and code enforcement officers working together for the good of the communities in which they serve. It was a very productive and informative meeting.”

Each town that participated had an opportunity to share with the group any seasonal issues they encounter and their solutions and proposals set forth to address the issues.  The exchange of ideas between municipalities and the RAC is valuable and lends itself to the strengthening of this collaborative group.  Councilman Frank Twardzik (Ocean View) stated, “For our quiet area of the resort(s) to be included in these conversations is important in learning the trends, concerns, and pulses of the surrounding coastal communities; I am glad to have the opportunity to participate.” Vice Mayor Lew Killmer (Bethany) added, “To bring the various coastal area officials and law enforcement together at the beginning of the season provides a tremendous opportunity to share ideas, gain insight to what your neighbors are facing and doing, and reassurance that everyone is on the same page.”

Included in this Pre-Season meeting were law enforcement representatives of each town, as well.  Chief Keith Banks (Rehoboth) enthusiastically commended the efforts of the RAC and municipalities and stated, “…to have the opportunity to work together, that is the only way we are going to be successful. By working with each other we will be able to enforce [ordinances] properly and evenly. Again, it is a team effort.” Chief Banks also stated that he is extremely fortunate to work in Rehoboth and with a group of Realtors that he can count on to be able to call, and they call him, whenever there is any concern.

VISION of the Women’s Council of REALTORS®

Through our influence as successful business professionals, women will effect positive change in the Profession and in the broader community.

At the Annual Convention in Milwaukee in November 1938, thirty-seven ambitious women represented nine states at that meeting for Women’s Council’s inception. Today, Women’s Council is a nationwide community of 12,000 real estate professionals who include many of the best and brightest in the business, the twelfth largest U.S. women’s professional organization and one of the most successful communication networks in the NAR family. With over 260 Networks in 39 States, it’s just not for women, 10% of members are Males.

The Sussex County Chapter was formed on June 7, 2008 and now maintains a membership of 80+ REALTORS®. Thru the support of the many Business Strategic Partners and Sponsors, we are now able to offer the opportunity to present many National Speakers at our Membership Meetings, free CE Classes with lunch and various social activities thru-out the year. SCAOR Card – Issue #007 – From the CEO’s Desk

Welcome to another edition of the monthly SCAORcard. As your CEO, I have exciting news from the March BOD meeting. The BOD approved the following capital improvement projects this spring. First, the rear parking lot will be improved with new stone. Second, all lighting throughout the facility will be replaced with LED bulbs thus saving on annual electric bills. Third, external parking lights will be replaced with LED bulbs to reduce costs and improve lighting for evening events. Lastly, cracked tiles will be replaced inside the facility. As any facility manager understands, replacing and renovating in the short-term saves money in the long-term. Another project in the works is replacing the landscaping in front of the building. The existing plants and shrubs are overgrown and could be replaced with a new design.

The new lockboxes will be delivered in mid-July with a swap out designated week of July 24-28. Please reserve that week as a time when you will be asked to visit SCAOR and replace your current lockboxes. To summarize, the BOD approved purchasing 4,200 wireless lockboxes at the January BOD meeting. All association lockboxes will be replaced. Stay tuned for more information.

Lastly, I just returned from the 2017 Association Executives Institute in Denver, CO with Angela Emerson. We spent one day at a certified Professional Standards Administration class and two days attending numerous seminars / workshops on leadership, management, advocacy, technology, RPAC fundraising, customer service, community outreach, marketing and NAR policies. Overall, it was a great conference and we are looking forward to attending in 2018. Speaking of conferences, mid-year is around the corner in Washington D.C. For those not familiar with the legislative meetings in Washington D.C. from May 15-20 this is a time when REALTORS and leadership advance the real estate industry while attending meetings and a trade show. SCAOR leadership and management will be attending on your behalf. If you have time, drive over for the trade show on the 18th and 19th!

Thank you again for everything you do to promote home ownership throughout Sussex County. We have an active and vibrant association with over 1500 members and growing. If you ever need anything, feel free to email me at merritt@scaor.com or call me at (302) 855-2300.

Sincerely,

Merritt Burke IV
CEO
